On Saturday, March 11, the Harris County Texas Sheriff’s Office received a call at around 6:30 p.m. telling them that the caller has not seen one of his neighbors for several months. Police proceeded to make a welfare check at the address given on Kilwinning Drive.
Upon arriving at the scene, cops smelled something bad and saw flies swarming at one end of the house. They decided to approach the residence to check on the homeowners.
According to Harris County Senior Deputy Thomas Gilliland, as the team entered the home, they suddenly heard gunfire from inside. They investigated the sound and found the body of a 63-year-old adult male in the bedroom, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
When they checked the adjoining room, police also found a badly decomposed body of a man. Officers said that the deceased was around 64 years old. They estimated that the death happened several months prior to the discovery. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences will perform tests to determine the cause of death of the decomposed man.
Officials said that they are not yet sure what the relationship between the two men was but that they had lived together in the residence.
An investigation into the case is still currently being done. Police believe the evidence indicates a murder-suicide.
