Another hero has left us too early.
On January 27, Maui, Hawaii experienced a severe storm that caused flooding and affected people on the island.
During the storm, 24-year-old Tre’ Evans-Dumaran, who was out assisting people who needed help, was pulled into a 14-foot storm drain as nearly 13 inches of rain pelted parts of Maui.
Firefighters and emergency personnel were able to rescue the firefighter at the shoreline, at the point where the drain empties into the Pacific Ocean, about 800 yards away from the storm drain that sucked him in. He was rushed to the Maui Memorial Medical Center’s intensive care unit.
Tre’s health had been progressing in a good direction, but he was pronounced dead on Saturday morning, more than a week after the dreadful event happened.
Tre’ worked as a firefighter for three years before the incident. According to Maui County Fire Chief Brad Ventura, Tre’ liked what he was doing and the people that he worked with. He also said that he enjoyed serving others.
Maui Mayor Richard Bissen shared that everyone is mourning the loss of the young firefighter. He also said that this is a reminder of the danger that emergency responders face on a daily basis.
A GoFundMe organized by the family has already raised over $136,000 of its $10,000 goal which was initially started to help the firefighter while he was fighting for his life.
