Man Attacks Three Women Just Hours After Being Released on Recognizance

A 32-year-old man with a lengthy criminal background has been charged with attacking three women just hours after appearing in a Cook County (Chicago) Court and being released on a promise to appear in court.

This past Saturday (September 24th), Quavon Ewing, 32, facing a charge of failing to register as a sex offender, was released after putting his signature on a court document stating that he promised to show up for a future date. Within 24 hours of his release, Ewing was arrested again and charged with one count of an attempted kidnapping by force and two counts of aggravated battery.

On Sunday morning, at roughly 8:30 AM, a 35-year-old woman noticed Ewing standing by a maroon color van around the 100 block of Roosevelt Ave., publicly urinating and exposing himself. He attempted to speak with her, but she couldn’t hear him because she was listening to an audiobook. Potentially upset by being shunned, Ewing reached out for her, attempting to get her in a bear hug. The woman struck Ewing with her cell phone and bit him on the neck, causing him to retreat to the van. The woman escaped to a nearby store, where she contacted the police.

Fifteen minutes later, on the 200 Block of South Sangamon, Ewing confronted a 45-year-old woman, grabbing her around the shoulders to get her into the van. He punched the woman in the head to try and stop her from screaming. A passerby heard the screaming and confronted Ewing, who grabbed an unidentifiable object from the van and threatened the witness before hopping into the van and leaving the scene.

The third incident, slightly after 9 AM and captured on a surveillance video, involved Ewing urinating into a cup at the Harrison Red Line stop and then pouring it over the head of a 25-year-old woman attempting to enter the station. Ewing announced to the victim that “she deserved it” before fleeing the area.

Two of the women were able to make an identification of Ewing when shown photo arrays. He was arrested on Monday morning when Chicago Transit officials recognized Ewing after seeing an alert and immediately notified police.
Ewing’s past criminal record includes convictions for aggravated criminal sexual abuse, aggravated battery to a peace officer, and aggravated criminal sexual abuse. He’s being held on $500,000 bail with a court date of October 19th.
