An intoxicated patron at Old Tyme Charley’s assaulted two people inside the bar before heading to his truck and attempting to run over two state troopers.
James Patrick Kilduff, 41, of Pittston, PA assaulted an employee and a patron on his way out of the restaurant. Upon the arrival of law enforcement officers, Kilduff intentionally drove his Ford Extended Cab F250 Truck toward the officers and attempted to run them over. Kilduff’s truck struck a state police vehicle as the troopers fired their weapons toward Kilduff’s truck. One trooper was struck by Kilduff’s vehicle and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Kilduff continued, driving through a vestibule of the tavern where his vehicle became lodged between utility poles and the building.

Kilduff died from gunshot wounds sustained by the troopers’ weapons at around 1:30 AM Friday. Neighbors report hearing anywhere from 15-20 shots during the exchange. Multiple bullet holes could be seen on the front passenger side window and door frame, as well as the rear passenger side window, which was smashed. Verizon removed a snapped utility pole before the vehicle could be moved.
State police at Tunkhannock and Shickshinny and the district attorney’s office continue the investigation. The State Police Forensics team processed the crime scene before it was cleared.
