Late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel has recently been vocal in his criticism of former U.S. President Donald Trump’s latest remarks and actions.
During his show on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, Kimmel focused on Trump’s comments made during a Fox News town hall hosted by Sean Hannity in Davenport, Iowa.
Trump’s declaration that he would act as a “dictator on day one” if re-elected in 2024 was a focal point of Kimmel’s monologue.
The former president’s response to Hannity’s question about misusing presidential power and his subsequent elaboration on closing the border and drilling sparked Kimmel’s criticism.
Kimmel, known for his satirical take on political issues, didn’t hold back in his response. He expressed exasperation with Trump and the media’s handling of the former president, accusing them of asking “fake questions.”
Kimmel’s commentary went beyond humor, reflecting a deeper concern about the state of democracy, as he remarked, “Basically, in November, we’re going to be voting on whether we will ever vote again.”
Kimmel also targeted Trump for a recent fundraising strategy in a separate segment. Trump reportedly offered a piece of the suit he wore when arrested in Georgia as part of his new series of digital trading cards. Kimmel mocked this move as “shameless,” humorously likening Trump to a figure reinventing “garbage grill kids.”
The former president’s efforts to monetize his legal troubles, including selling themed Christmas items and “Make America Great Again” caps in festive colors, were also subjects of Kimmel’s ridicule.
This approach by Trump, according to Kimmel, exemplifies his unapologetic attitude toward capitalizing on his political and legal challenges.
