In the early hours of December 9, 2023, a fatal car crash near Beresford, South Dakota, claimed the lives of three young individuals aged 18, 19, and 20.
The incident led to criminal charges against a 20-year-old male, the incident’s sole survivor. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office located the crash site around 5:37 a.m. at 291st Street near 468th Ave, following a report of a stolen vehicle.
Involved in the crash was a 2014 Ram 1500 Sport. While traveling east, the vehicle left the road, jumped over a driveway, crashed in a ditch, and overturned. Three people – a 19-year-old woman, an 18-year-old man, and a 20-year-old man – were found dead at the crash location.
The fourth occupant, the 20-year-old male, is said to have fled on foot and was later apprehended at a Beresford residence with serious injuries. He was hospitalized and faces charges of underage drinking and vehicle theft.
The investigation, with participation from various law enforcement agencies including the South Dakota Highway Patrol and local sheriff’s offices, is concentrating on identifying the driver at the time of the accident.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is urging the public to provide any relevant information, emphasizing the ongoing issues surrounding road safety and the ramifications of illegal activities like vehicle theft and underage drinking.
