Man Shoots and Kills Driver Who Ran Over His Son

A tragic incident in Durham, North Carolina on August 14 has led to the arrest of a 41-year-old man on charges connected to the death of a 39-year-old employee of the state’s correctional department.

Jeffrey McKay was driving his truck and accidentally hit Chad Woods Jr., aged 17. The teenager and his father, Chad Woods, Sr., were returning home on foot at 6:30 am after a vehicle breakdown due to running out of gas.

Following the accident, McKay, an electrical supervisor at the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, made a 911 call.

In the moments that followed, the distressed father, Woods Sr., took a gun from his car and shot McKay. Reports suggest that the firearm used was thrown into a nearby body of water and Woods fled the scene in McKay’s vehicle, leaving the two bodies on the road.

Law enforcement agencies were successful in arresting Woods close to his home.

The incident attracted onlookers and witnesses. Lawrence Claiborne, Woods Sr.’s father, recounted his son’s noticeable distress.

Chad Woods, Sr. made his court appearance on August 21.
