An 83-year-old man from Coatesville, Pennsylvania, has been arrested and charged with first- and third-degree murder, along with weapon-related offenses, after a fatal altercation with his roommate over a dog.
The incident occurred on Saturday, August 19, at a home on Graham Avenue in Coatesville.
The Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan’s office reported that the Coatesville Police Department responded to a shooting incident around 8:40 am. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim, 61-year-old Keith Boggs, deceased on the front steps. Boggs had sustained a gunshot wound to his upper left chest. A bloody shoe print was found near the entrance, and a young girl was heard screaming inside the house.
Detectives reviewed video footage that captured the events leading up to the incident. A witness, who shared the house with her daughter and the two men recounted that an argument had broken out between Boggs and the accused, Uley Hines, over the dog. The witness overheard the confrontation escalate, with Boggs going up the steps to take the dog inside just before gunshots echoed through the house. Hines was reportedly heard saying, “I told you to stop f—ing with me.”
A subsequent autopsy revealed three bullet wounds on Boggs’ body, one on the left side of the chest, one on the right side of the chest, and one on the right arm. Hines was apprehended later that day.
