High School Basketball Star Fatally Shot in LA

A 16-year-old high school student was gunned down and killed after leaving a nightclub.

Responding to reports of gunfire at around 11:40 PM, June 10, officers from the Los Angeles Police Department rushed to the scene near the intersection of 74th Street and Hobart Boulevard in the 1700 block. They discovered the young victim, identified by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office as Quincy Darnell Reese Jr., suffering from gunshot wounds behind a parked vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to family members, Reese was a talented basketball player at Crenshaw High School, where he was revered by his teammates and known affectionately as “Batman” due to his exceptional skills on the court. His father, Quincy Reese, expressed his devastation, stating that his world had been turned upside down by the loss of his son. Reese Sr. described Quincy Jr. as courageous, respectful, and a dreamer, noting that his son had inspired positive change in his life.

Coach Ed Waters, who had watched Quincy Jr. grow and mature since the 8th grade, spoke highly of his basketball abilities, which had attracted the attention of over 50 colleges nationwide. Quincy Jr. was set to be one of the team captains for the upcoming season, further highlighting his leadership qualities and dedication to the sport.

A vigil was held outside Crenshaw High School on Sunday evening, drawing classmates, family members, and friends who came together to mourn and remember the young life lost. Authorities have not disclosed any information about the motive behind the shooting or any potential suspects.
