A shocking event unfolded involving the son of a former Red Sox first baseman, who is believed to have murdered his eight-year-old son before taking his own life on Friday, June 2, at their residence in Massachusetts.
During a well check at approximately 8 am at the New Bedford home of George Scott III, son of former Red Sox player George Scott, police came upon what seemed to be a murder-suicide.
The Bristol District Attorney’s office revealed that George Scott III, aged 54, and his son, Dante Hazard, were discovered dead within the home. Preliminary investigation suggests that Scott was responsible for his son’s death before ending his own life. The specific details, including the methodology employed, will be determined by the medical examiner.
George Scott III, living with his son in the Phillips Road residence, was the son of the renowned Red Sox star, George Scott, known for his nine-season tenure with the team in the 1960s and 1970s.
Upon learning about the incident, neighbor Courtney Colombo expressed shock and incredulity, describing George Scott III as a good neighbor. She mentioned seeing Dante playing outside.
Prior to this distressing incident, investigators had examined the house as part of the probe into the disappearance of Lisa Hazard, the mother of the young boy. Lisa Hazard has been unaccounted for since March 2019, and her case remains unresolved. George Scott III had been marked as a person of interest in the ongoing investigation.
George Scott III had once expressed a desire to follow in his father’s professional path in baseball and other endeavors. In a past interview, he held high regard for his father, George “Boomer” Scott, an ex-three-time All-Star and eight-time Gold Glove recipient, who held a commendable career with the Red Sox from 1966 to 1979.
