Alabama police are investigating the discovery of the body of a missing woman, found shot and burned.
The victim, identified as 31-year-old Jermiera Ivory Fowler, had reportedly gone to meet someone concerning an online purchase when she disappeared. Birmingham Police Department revealed that Fowler was last seen on May 31 in Birmingham, Alabama.
Officers were summoned to a scene along the 200 block of Sellers Road, upon receiving a distressing call about a burned body. Arriving at the location, they found Fowler’s body, severely burned and exhibiting visible signs of trauma. Emergency personnel pronounced Fowler dead at the scene, and subsequent examination disclosed that she had also been shot.
Local resident Herbert Brown, whose property is adjacent to the scene, conveyed his shock over the horrific incident that took place behind his house. Brown recalled witnessing a large flame from his bedroom window and making the grisly discovery of a burning body when he went to look over the fence. Firefighters were on the scene to extinguish the blaze, and police officers conducted a detailed search of the area until the early hours of the morning.
The Birmingham Police Department has classified Fowler’s death as a homicide and is in the process of pursuing leads to identify and capture those responsible.
Although they initially believed the victim disappeared following a possible meetup with a person to complete a Facebook Marketplace transaction, they later said they could not confirm that the meeting took place.
