In a devastating accident, three sisters were killed in a head-on car crash in North Carolina, just a day before the youngest sister’s birthday, according to local law enforcement.
The victims were named as Viola Medlin Singletary, 74, Gloria Medlin McCrimmon, 72, and Cheryl Elaine Medlin, 63. The accident happened on Wednesday, June 7, on Highway 690 in Moore County when a 2023 KIA, driving in the opposing lane, crossed the center line and collided head-on with their silver 2010 Hyundai, State Highway Patrol officials stated.
The impact of the crash destroyed the sisters’ vehicle and also claimed the life of the KIA’s driver. The youngest of the sisters, Cheryl, was to turn 64 the next day. A passenger in the KIA, named Suzanne Beasley, survived the collision but with serious injuries. She was airlifted to a local hospital for medical attention.
The accident transpired at approximately 10:59 am, when the unidentified driver of the KIA, believed to be speeding, lost control of the car around a bend, leading to the fatal crash. The sisters were en route to pick up a truck, a part of the preparations for Cheryl Medlin’s upcoming 64th birthday. To commemorate Cheryl, the family plans to conduct a balloon release ceremony.
Wayne Davis, a cousin of Suzanne Beasley, was a witness to the crash and rushed to help, only to find his injured cousin among the casualties. “I hadn’t seen my cousin in eight years and there was blood around her face. I couldn’t recognize that it was my cousin,” said a distressed Davis. The impact of the crash caused the Hyundai to spin out of control, with debris from the vehicle’s engine hitting Davis’ work truck.
The State Highway Patrol is continuing their investigations into the incident. Early findings suggest that the KIA driver’s excessive speed and reckless driving were contributing factors in the collision.
