A violent incident at a large block party in Syracuse, New York, early Sunday, June 11, resulted in at least 13 people being injured in a mix of shootings, stabbings, and hit-and-run incidents.
Responding to a call about shots fired around 12:22 am, officers from the Syracuse Police Department arrived at the 100 block of Davis Street. They found a gathering of hundreds of people near the intersection of Davis Street and Massena Street.
On the scene, law enforcement found multiple victims aged between 17 and 25 who had been wounded in various ways. Some had gunshot wounds, others had been stabbed, and some had been struck by vehicles as panic spread through the crowd. All of the victims, found either at the scene or in local hospitals, are expected to survive.
The large gathering consisted of students, between high school and college ages, who had most likely just finished school.
The block party was advertised on social media, but was no permit issued, which is necessary for a large crowd. The streets were not blocked off and there was no police presence.
The Syracuse Police Department continues to investigate the incident and urges anyone with information to contact their Criminal Investigations Division. Updates regarding arrests have yet to be provided by the authorities.
